Glass options for timber sash windows

As timber window manufacturers, we know how important it is to choose the right glass for your project, which is why our timber sash windows have a variety of glazing options available.

Nine Zero glass options

At Nine Zero, we stock a wide selection of glass options. We have different configurations of double glazing available, such as 14mm slimline, 24mm and 26.8mm acoustic glazing. We also offer several obscure glazing options for those rooms that need an extra level of privacy.

Acoustic glazing for timber sash windows

Being able to relax in your home without hearing busy roads and street noises should be standard. At Nine Zero, we offer acoustic glass for our timber sash windows. Our noise reduction glass is made from two panes which have been laminated together using an acoustic membrane. This membrane absorbs the sound energy vibration through the glass.

Our acoustic glazing not only reduces outside noise but has excellent heat retention, making your home quieter and warmer.

FINEO vacuum glazing

FINEO vacuum glazing is ideal for those who want increased insulation and comfort within their home. This consists of a 0.1mm vacuum between two sheets of glass where one sheet is covered in a low-emissivity coating. FINEO vacuum glazing is ultra-thin but has the noise reduction and energy performance of triple glazing, with 15 percent more natural light entering the property. Due to its thinness (from 6mm), this glass is perfect for listed and traditional heritage buildings which often require specific glass options.

Krypton-filled glass units

The industry standard for double glazing is argon-filled glass units. At Nine Zero, we offer krypton-filled glass units, providing even better insulation and heat retention. As krypton gas is denser than argon, it is much more suited to triple glazed units and units with ¾ inch gaps between the panes. That’s why krypton-filled glass units are the ideal option for a period property with a small pane system.

Choosing the right glass for timber sash windows

When there are so many glass options to choose from, it can be difficult to know which is right for your project. We’ve put together a small guide of things to consider before choosing your glass.

Thermal efficiency

Our timber sash windows have a great thermal performance and choosing the right glass will only increase this. Typically, older properties get cold quicker, so it’s important to choose glass with low U-values to enhance the thermal efficiency of your home.

Acoustic performance

Exposure to loud noises too often can have negative effects on our health, so when choosing your glass, consider whether the property is in an area where outside noise may be a concern. In some places, double glazing may be enough.

Building requirements

Many timber windows are in listed buildings or traditional heritage buildings, which often require specific glass, so make sure to take this into consideration when choosing the glass for your project. For projects that need to follow strict conservation guidelines, we offer a single glazed option.

At Nine Zero, sustainability is at the heart of our business. Our bespoke timber sash windows are ideal for climate-conscious homeowners, architects, and developers.
