Case Study – Fulham

  • Client: Private homeowner
  • Location: Snowbury Road, Fulham, London
  • Project Type: Period property refurbishment

Nine Zero was commissioned to manufacture and install bespoke timber sash windows for a period property on Snowbury Road in Fulham, London. The project required a balance between preserving the home’s traditional appearance and improving day-to-day performance, including thermal efficiency, acoustic insulation, and security.

Working closely with the client, our team designed timber sash windows that reflected the original detailing and proportions of the property while incorporating modern glazing and locking systems. The finished installation helped retain the character of the home while improving comfort and reducing external noise in a busy West London location.

Our work with developers

We work with homeowners, developers, architects, and installers across London and the South West, delivering bespoke timber windows and doors for both refurbishment and new-build projects. Every product is manufactured to order, allowing us to meet exact project specifications while maintaining consistent quality and reliable lead times.

For this Fulham project, our team produced custom timber sash windows designed specifically around the existing openings and architectural detailing of the property. This ensured the new installation complemented the original building while meeting modern performance standards.

Scope of work

The project included the manufacture and installation of bespoke timber sash windows designed to replicate the traditional appearance of the existing windows, including fine glazing bars and period detailing suited to the property’s original architecture.

Manufactured from FSC-certified timber, each window was built to precise measurements to ensure an accurate fit within the existing openings. Acoustic glazing was incorporated throughout the installation to help reduce external noise levels, which was an important consideration for the property’s Fulham location.

Alongside improved sound insulation, the windows also delivered improved thermal performance, helping to reduce heat loss and support energy efficiency within the property. Modern locking systems were integrated discreetly into the design to improve security without affecting the traditional appearance of the windows.

What our clients say

“Our building is in an ANOB, world heritage site, and an SSSI. We wanted windows that would look authentic, were affordable, and would meet the challenges of a coastal location – saline air, high UV, and strong winds. The material had to withstand corrosion, be adjustable over its lifetime, and, with normal maintenance, last 30 years or longer. We considered plastic and aluminium windows but were not convinced they could meet the criteria.

We decided on Nine Zero after visiting the workshop in Cornwall and meeting the team. Communication was important in determining the design and final detailing of the windows. We were happy with the process and the resulting windows look great.”

James Burton, Director, Bere Property Ltd

“Nine Zero were recommended to us by a local timber business owner for lead time: the order process was simple, people were friendly on the phone, and we were delighted with the quality. A friend who has 35 years’ experience of running a high-end timber business was also very impressed.”

Mr Nick Denman, Hastings, England

"What drew me to Nine-Zero was the product, and that its manufactured in the UK, it quickly became about the people as much as the product! The personal touch, the close-knit team of people who know what they are doing and the consistent service levels."

Elliott Martin, Oxford Trade Frames Ltd

"We recently had our windows replaced and couldn’t be happier with the results. The fact that they’re made right here in the UK, in Cornwall was a big plus for us — it’s great to support local craftsmanship. The quality is outstanding, with a solid, well-finished look and feel. In addition, the delivery went smoothly with no issues whatsoever. Highly recommend this company for anyone looking for reliable, high-quality timber windows made close to home."

Florence Holzapfel

"Nine Zero offered beautiful, yet affordable timber windows and doors and were able to customise a few trickier fitouts that other suppliers couldn't. What stood out most was their knowledge and support in making non-standard items work in line with the architects' drawings."

Ketie van der Wateren, Co-founder, flow design & manage

"What stood out most about Nine Zero was their attention to detail and the level of support we received from day one. Steve and his team were, proactive, transparent, and genuinely invested in helping us & the client team get the best result. Every interaction felt collaborative — he listened carefully, offered expert advice, and delivered exactly what they promised. The service is the very least we expect from a subcontractor or supplier & Nine Zero understood this from the outset."

Sandra Phaup, Head of Design, Morgan Rae Ltd

Challenges and achievements

One of the main challenges of this project was preserving the character of the property while upgrading performance to modern standards. The new sash windows needed to align with the proportions and detailing of the original design while also improving insulation, security, and acoustic performance.

Achieving this required careful surveying, precise manufacturing, and detailed design work to ensure every element fitted seamlessly within the existing structure. Acoustic glazing also needed to be incorporated without compromising the windows’ classic design elements.

The completed installation successfully delivered a practical upgrade for the property while maintaining the period aesthetic expected of homes in Fulham and the surrounding West London area.
