Working With Architects

We work closely with architects to provide bespoke timber windows and doors that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern performance. From conservation areas to luxury developments and sustainable new homes, we understand the challenges you face when balancing required specifications and client expectations.Β

Our collaborative approach ensures you have the resources to specify timber windows and doors that perform exactly as intended. But more than simply supplying products, we become an extension of your project team, offering technical guidance, specification support, and practical expertise from the earliest design stages through to manufacture and delivery.

Whether you’re developing initial concepts or preparing a detailed specification for tender, Nine Zero is here to help you deliver successful projects with confidence.

Getting involved in the project early

Early involvement allows us to guide suitable window and door systems, performance requirements, heritage considerations, and compliance with current Building Regulations. It also gives your design team access to technical drawings and product information that can be incorporated into planning submissions and specification documents from the outset.

There are also several other important advantages to us getting involved early:

  • Greater assurance that products meet the project’s design and performance requirements
  • Fewer specification changes later in the project
  • Better coordination between architects, developers, contractors, and installers
  • More accurate budgeting and programme planning
  • Reduced risk of unexpected technical compromises during construction

You may also require detailed technical information to make informed decisions, satisfy planning authorities, and produce accurate construction documentation before you begin. Our in-house technical team provides a comprehensive range of resources designed specifically for architectural practices.

Compliance with Building RegulationsΒ

Our team has extensive knowledge of current regulatory requirements and can guide areas including:

  • Part L energy efficiency requirements
  • PAS 24 enhanced security standards
  • Secured by Design (SBD) principles
  • Performance requirements for new-build developments
  • Suitable solutions for conservation areas and heritage properties

We’ll gladly explain how different our systems perform, what standards they achieve, and which options are best suited to particular applications. This provides greater confidence throughout the specification process while helping reduce the likelihood of costly revisions later in the project.

CDC support

As part of our commitment to supporting the architectural community, we offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions designed specifically for architects and specifiers.

These sessions provide practical, relevant guidance on topics such as:

  • Timber window and door specification
  • PAS 24 and enhanced security requirements
  • Secured by Design principles
  • Current Building Regulations affecting window and door specification
  • Selecting suitable products for different property types
  • Balancing heritage aesthetics with modern performance standards

Rather than focusing solely on our own products, our CPDs are intended to help you develop a broader understanding of timber window and door specification, enabling you to make informed decisions across a wide range of projects. Whether delivered in person or arranged around your practice’s requirements, these sessions provide valuable technical insight while helping build long-term collaborative relationships.

    Delivering across long-term partnerships

By working together across multiple projects, we gain a deeper understanding of your design preferences, technical standards, and preferred ways of working. This enables us to provide faster advice, more efficient technical support, and specifications that are closely aligned with your practice’s approach.

We also recognise the value of face-to-face collaboration. Whether you’re reviewing product samples, discussing finishes and colour palettes, or exploring technical solutions for a particularly complex project, our team is always happy to arrange meetings to support your decision-making process.

    Our collaborative design process

Working with us is designed to be straightforward, transparent, and supportive from the first conversation through to project completion.

    Initial consultation

Every project begins with a consultation to understand your vision. We’ll discuss the property, your design objectives, planning considerations, performance requirements, and any project-specific challenges before recommending the most suitable timber window and door systems.

    Technical review

Once we’ve established your requirements, our technical specialists review the project in detail. We’ll assess drawings, discuss compliance requirements, advise on suitable product configurations, and identify any potential challenges early, helping reduce delays and minimise revisions later in the process.

    Design

We’ll assemble window and door designs that achieve the right balance between appearance, performance, security, and longevity. We offer considerable flexibility in dimensions, glazing options, finishes, ironmongery, and colour palettes, allowing the final specification to slot seamlessly within your overall architectural design.

    Quotation & lead times

Once the specification has been agreed, we provide clear, detailed quotations alongside realistic manufacturing and delivery schedules. We understand that reliable lead times are essential for coordinating wider project programmes, so we’ll work closely with you to keep projects progressing smoothly.

    Manufacture & delivery

Everything we produce is manufactured to order using high-quality timber at our Cornish workshop. Our bespoke approach ensures every window and door is produced to the agreed specification before being carefully prepared for delivery in line with the project’s programme.

    Ongoing project support

We’re available throughout the project to answer technical queries, support contractors and installers where required, and provide continued assistance should specifications need to be clarified or refined. By maintaining close communication throughout the build, we help ensure the finished result reflects the original design intent.
